True Science or Marketing Hype?

Do you know someone who is considering taking medication for anxiety, depression, bipolar or ADD/ADHD, or who is trying to withdraw from these drugs due to unbearable side effects?

Lately we have been getting numerous emails from readers hooked on psychotropic drugs, who now desperately want to get off of them.

These readers have found out the hard way what drug companies, the media and the FDA won't tell us: no one knows what psychotropic meds do to the human brain, or how each individual will react to them. That is because chemical imbalances and genetics have never been proven to cause mental disorders, and no objective testing is done at time of prescription to show that a problem exists--just a quick diagnosis by an "expert."  By taking psychotropic drugs, unsuspecting help-seekers play Russian Roulette with their brains.

If you or someone you know is turning to psychotropic drugs for help, have them contact us. We will tell them the truth about their situation and refer them to material that will help them get drug-free and functioning normally.

As Christians, who should we seek when we experience anxiety, depression, mood swings or hyperactivity? We go to the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. God seeks a close, intimate relationship with us. In His presence we experience fullness of joy, peace, contentment and satisfaction in our souls. Instead of turning to the world's solutions, methods, techniques, tests and programs, our Maker waits with open arms for us to turn to Him.

God promises peace to those who focus on the Prince of Peace:

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7, NKJV

"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." 1 Peter 5-7, NKJV

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessalonians 5:28, NKJV

"Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." Colossians 3:15-16, NKJV

Notice the three components that weave themselves throughout these verses: Worship, prayer and thanksgiving. Are you depressed? Worship God in song, pray to Him about your needs, and thank Him for hearing you and loving you. Anxious? Worship God in song, pray to Him about your needs, and thank Him for hearing you and loving you.

Something amazing happens to us when we worship, pray and give thanks. It is like God lifts us up into heaven for awhile and then puts us back down again, and we feel better. Things seem smaller and less significant than they were before.

May we as a church return to the simplicity of Christ by looking away from ourselves and our circumstances, and simply giving praise, prayer and thanksgiving to the King of kings and Lord of lords. It is a heavenly perspective with earthly rewards!
