Update on William

Since the last newsletter, William, a once successful and fully functional businessman who has been put into the mental health system against his will and overdrugged and abused for the last 30 years, was released from the hospital to live with friends. Our concerns over his transfer to the dead-end facility were over--thank the Lord.

But living with friends has produced its own set of challenges. William is so angry and frustrated over what the psych meds have done to him, that he refuses to take them. He experienced withdrawal reactions that sent him into a frenzy--trashing his friend's apartment, writing on the walls, and walking around with his pants down.

Now William is right back in the hospital again, for another round of psychotropic drugs that only serve to further destroy his brain, liver, kidneys, heart and lungs. It is a vicious cycle. A slow murder.

We are still working to locate a facility that is willing to detox William, but psychiatrists don't see the drug as the problem, but the "illness." So the last thing most psychiatrists want to do is detox a patient.

Please continue to pray for William to get detoxed from the psychotropic drugs.

William's friend has not heard back from President Bush about her pleas to reform the system, but we know that the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health has admitted that our mental system is in shambles and needs a huge overhaul (see July 21, 2003 news release).

Please continue to pray for President Bush and his advisors to start reforms to ban patient drugging and begin safe, faith-based programs of mental help.

Please also continue to pray for:

bullet

God to give William strength to endure suffering and that he would not give up hope.

bullet

God to raise up a truth-loving lawyer who is willing to take this case to the highest levels of authority.

bullet

Protection and strength for William's friend, who is standing up for righteousness and fighting for William's life.

For William's sake, send this webpage to others. Reform of our mental health system starts with us.
