PSYCHOLOGY DEBUNKED

Exposing Psychology, Exalting Christ

February 2004

Dear Psychology Debunked Reader,

In late January, a reader from Missouri sent us an alarming article from Christianity Today's Marriage Partnership segment, entitled "I Was Married to Jekyll and Hyde." The article gives Naomi's account of her husband's struggle with bipolar disorder and the subsequent demise of their marriage. The savior they finally discover is not the Lord Jesus Christ, but the power of psychotherapy and medication.

Since this influential and widely distributed publication probably influenced thousands of Christians to see their spouse's problems through the lens of psychology instead of Scripture, we felt it necessary to correct Christianity Today's editors for their gross biblical and psychological errors.

The original Christianity Today article, along with our response to the editor, is included below.

In This Issue:

In Christianity Today's article "I Was Married to Jekyll and Hyde," a husband's drunkenness, filthy language, frequent outbursts of wrath, and irresponsibility on the job drive his wife to seek help. Instead of rebuke and accountability by a pastor, the husband receives a bipolar diagnosis and drug prescription by a psychiatrist.

Read about their psychological road to recovery.
