Reader email regarding Bazler response to CT article: You folks mean well but you are wrong and are causing many to stay in and feel condemnation. . . all truth is God's Truth, no matter the discipline. There is ungodly psychology and there is godly psychology, just like there is vulgar language and there is holy language...we don't stop talking just because some people misuse words or lie... --G., Internet Bazler response: Thank you for your email. Please know that the purpose of our ministry is not to make people feel condemnation, but rather to alert and deliver psychologized believers from worldly wisdom and philosophies that can take people captive (Col. 2:8) and damage their relationship with God. When you say "all truth is God's truth, no matter the discipline," are you saying we should adopt portions of Mormonism or Jehovah's Witnesses theology, because these religions contain portions of truth? Certainly not. One of Satan's most effective tactics is to mix truth with lies, and that is exactly what psychology attempts to do: it observes behavior (usually with good accuracy - in truth) but then tries to explain the reasons behind the behavior and the methods to change that behavior using humanistic, godless theories and treatments (these are the lies). Where in the Bible does it say, "all truth is God's truth?" The Bible defines truth as the person of Jesus Christ and the Word of God: "I am the way, the truth, and the life." John 14:6. "Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth." John 17:17. Yes, there are scientific truths that govern the universe, but this is not God's truth. God's truth is eternal and spiritual as revealed in the Scriptures. Scientific truths are physical and natural as revealed in the universe around us. So the question becomes, is psychology a science? If so, then we can trust its claims like we can trust the existence of gravity or electricity. If not, then it falls under a philosophy of life, which is in direct opposition to the Bible. See http://www.psychologydebunked.com/email040115_Q&A.htm for reasons why psychology is NOT a science like any other field such as medicine, law, engineering or finance. You say, "There is godly psychology." Show us just one founding father or major leader of psychology who is a born-again Christian. All of psychology's founding fathers and major leaders (Freud, Jung, Adler, Rogers, Maslow, Fromm, etc.) are NOT Christians and do NOT include God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, or the Bible in any of their theories and treatments. Freud referred to himself as "the godless Jew who founded psychotherapy." Freud thought religion actually CAUSED mental illness. Jung received his theories from a "spirit guide" (read "demon") named Philemon. Jung thought Christianity and religion in general were imaginary coping mechanisms for dealing with mental illness. Why would anyone want to consult a psychotherapist trained in theories developed by godless men such as these? Psychology effectively takes away our simple trust in the living God and directs our focus inward instead of outward and upward. Suddenly we begin to call our behavior a "disorder", "disease", or "illness" instead of calling it sin. This is spiritually damaging because if we don't call it sin, we won't know to confess it and resume walking in the light. Instead, we continue to stumble in darkness, looking to therapists instead of to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. We hope this gives you some insight into why psychology is a clear and present danger to the church, and we hope you take after the Bereans and test everything you hear - even from respected Christian leaders - with the Scriptures to make sure that what you are hearing is really the truth. With love in Christ, Lisa and Ryan Bazler
