Pastor Supports Meds for the Body But Rejects Drugs for the Mind

Reader Letter, 7/31/04

"Thank you very much for the book I have read it and passed it on to a psych student at BIOLA [University]! I completely agree with you concerning psychology.

"In the first few years of serving as a pastor I counseled people and always wondered about psychological counseling. I never fully agreed with it and felt like the odd man out… After 7 years in the pastorate my wife told me there was a guy on the radio that believed like I did. When I listened to him I was convinced that I was not "nuts" or "off base" about psychology. Now I knew for sure that psychology IS a "doctrine of demons" that Paul warned Timothy about in 1 Tim.4:1. The pastor I heard on the radio that day was Bob Hoekstra…

"I personally do not believe in any drug for the mind, I do believe in medications for the body as Jesus Himself acknowledged physicians in Luke 5:31 when He said, "Physicians are for the sick". He did not say psychiatrists are for the mind!

"Thank you very much, and may God richly and abundantly bless you both." –MM, Internet
