The mental health field is once again in the limelight, with the FDA ordering suicide warning labels on all antidepressants, and Prop 63 in California proposing more funding for more programs that subjectively label and medicate common human experience. We discuss these far-reaching issues below.
We also discuss the deeply psychological foundation of Rick Warren's popular SHAPE program (a.k.a. Discovery 301 class), which uses manmade personality tests based on the teachings of pagan Psychologist Carl Jung and the MBTI. The strong warning from the FDA back in March for drug manufacturers and health professionals to put warning labels on their antidepressant medications has turned into a direct order. On October 15, the FDA announced it would require "black box" warning labels—the FDA’s most serious type of warning—on all antidepressant medications. The label warns of increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior in children and adolescents being treated with antidepressant medications. The FDA commissioner summarized, "Our conclusions are based on the latest and best science." Read more...

Despite the ineffectiveness and corruption in America’s mental hospitals and mental health programs, Proposition 63, a special interest initiative on this year’s ballot for California voters, seeks to get an additional 1-billion+ dollars of funding in 2005 for more ineffective and dangerous programs. Not only does the proposition create a bottomless and unaccountable money pit for years to come, but passing this proposition will result in more Californians—especially low-income groups and children—with disorder labels, psychotherapists and psychiatric drug addictions. Rick Warren's SHAPE Program Uses Carl Jung-Based Personality Testing
In recent issues we have been discussing the pagan and occultic roots of personality type tests such as the Jung-based MBTI, and whether a Christian should use them (see http://www.psychologydebunked.com/email0408_MBTI.htm). With the explosive influence of Rick Warren’s "purpose-driven" church growth movement, more and more churches are adopting Warren’s SHAPE program (a.k.a. Discovery 301 class) to help their congregations best serve God. The program requires participants to take a personality test because, according to Warren, “When you minister in a manner consistent with the personality God gave you, you experience fulfillment, satisfaction, and fruitfulness.” (The Purpose Driven Life, p. 246) Does God really want us trusting in personality tests to produce fulfillment, satisfaction and fruitfulness in our lives?
