Exposing Psychology, Exalting Christ December 2004 |
Merry Christmas to you! We always enjoy listening to Handel's Messiah during the Christmas season, and one of our favorite passages of Scripture in Handel's masterpiece is Isaiah 9:6, which reads:
"For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
How amazing that the prophet Isaiah predicted the birth of Christ 700 years beforehand! This Christ would be God in the flesh, showing us the way to heaven and then paying our way with his sacrifice for our sins (Isaiah 53). But this Christ would also be our Counselor--the only Counselor we need in things pertaining to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3)--and our Prince of Peace as we pray to Him and depend on Him daily (Phil. 4:6-7).
This month, we are excited to tell you that last week's ABC News PrimeTime show exposed false claims and test data nondisclosures made by GlaxoSmithKline, maker of the antidepressant drug Paxil, using internal documents that even the FDA and Congress could not obtain in their investigations. The truth is finally getting out that psychiatric drug companies have one goal: sell more drugs to doctors and consumers, no matter what the consequences. The show also discussed other antidepressants, revealing what we've been saying for years: no testing has been done on the human brain to prove the existence of chemical imbalances, and all the major antidepressants actually cause brain malfunction and potentially fatal side effects.
We also look at 2005 federal funding of mental health screening and answer the question, "Should a Christian use dating / match-making websites to find their soul mate?"
We hope you enjoy the issue and forward it to others - they can subscribe to this monthly newsletter for free by simply emailing lisaandryan@psychologydebunked.com with "Add" in the subject line.
Yours in Christ,
Lisa and Ryan Bazler

Where does your doctor get his information about psychiatric drugs? From drug companies like GlaxoSmithKline, maker of the antidepressant Paxil. Last week, ABC News PrimeTime uncovered internal documents from GlaxoSmithKline that admit Paxil was ineffective in treating depression and caused serious side affects including suicide, despite company sales materials to the contrary. Other internal documents show the drug maker suppressed negative test data (4 out of 5 trials) and relabeled withdrawal symptoms by the more harmless term "discontinuation symptoms." ABC News PrimeTime has found that GlaxoSmithKline has duped doctors and consumers for years regarding the safety and efficacy of Paxil. Why would GlaxoSmithKline hide the withdrawal symptoms of Paxil? This internal company memo speaks for itself (courtesy of ABC News PrimeTime):

Last September, House Representative Ron Paul, R-Texas, failed to block federal funding of mandatory mental health screening of school children. Last month, his proposal to require parental consent before psychological evaluation also failed. With the Labor, HHS and Education Appropriations now set for 2005, we can soon expect schools nationwide to begin adopting forced evaluation, therapy and drugging of our children. Read more…

This man saw his soul-mate of 18 years go from a loving and compassionate wife to an irresponsible zombie after taking the antidepressant Prozac. Now divorced, he says, "To this day I’ve never had any bitterness toward my wife, of course, but I do admit I hold bitterness toward the profit-hungry pharmaceutical companies who have no concern for people’s lives and to the medical profession in general who seem to pass out these drugs like they’re candy." Read about his wife’s tragic transformation while on Prozac.
