URGENT PRAYER NEEDED

A pastor has contacted us for prayer concerning his son, raised in the Christian faith, now in his early 20s. Since graduating from high school, the son has walked away from the Lord, used crystal meth and other hard drugs and has recently been arrested for misdemeanors. The pastor suspects he is still using crystal meth due to the abnormal patterns he has seen: lack of sleep, wierd eating habits, paranoia, can't distinguish between reality and fantasy, dilated eyes, etc.

Last Sunday the son wielded a knife and threatened to kill himself and his parents. He is now at county mental health and on psychiatric drugs. Here are the specifics of the incident, in the pastor’s own words:

Ryan and Lisa,

Things have taken a turn for the worse concerning our son. This past Sunday I was teaching services while my wife was with him. His behavior became much more hard to handle. Prior to this we had him reading the Bible and listening to tapes and he was responding with questions. However on Sunday he began to say that Jesus was not the way the truth and the life and began to be convinced that he is, and that his calling is to tell the world that Jesus was a liar. He has been writing down his thoughts concerning what the Bible is saying and everything is backward. Eve came before Adam, Able before Cain, etc. I found words written backward right to left, even the whole alphabet.

On Monday, he had to go up and see his Public Defender and was very emotional. He was convinced that he only had 6 days until he would be sacrificed. The more we tried to calm him down the worse he got. Finally he pulled a knife and was threating to kill himself. Long story short, unfortunately he is now on a 72-hour hold with mental health. He is of-age and we have no rights, in fact neither does he, as he is a danger to himself and others.

Our hearts are broken, as it seems the enemy is one step ahead of us as we were trying to get him into a Christ-centered recovery center. My wife saw him today and said that he is still psychotic. There is very much a demonic influence upon him now. We were trying to get him to renounce the lies that he was spouting but he would not. It seems to me that the further we try to pull him up the more he slips down deeper. Our trust remains firm in Jesus even though our hearts are heavy.

If you have any suggestions please drop us a note as we are now in the maze of mental health where well-meaning people dispense drugs instead of the answer. He has the Bible and I'm bringing him a study guide on Ephesians. We have lovingly turned him over to our Lord who is more than able to defeat the father of lies and it is to this that our hope remains fixed.

This beautiful, God-loving family is under heavy spiritual attack by the enemy. Please join with us by spending a few minutes to pray fervently and effectually to God:

¨      For God’s mercy and protection over the son—both physically and spiritually—while he is at county mental health.

¨      That God would grant the son a sound mind, and that he would choose following Christ over following the world.

¨      For the son to be transferred soon from the mental health system into a Christian drug rehab center, where he can recover.

¨      For God’s grace, peace and protection for the pastor and his wife during this difficult time.

Many thanks from the family and us.

Yours in Christ,

Ryan and Lisa Bazler
