How would you approach Christian friends taking antidepressants, their children taking ADHD drugs, and a Christian school that pushes ADHD drugs?

Question:

I have many Christian friends who are taking anti-depressants and also know many who have their children on ADD meds.  My children attend a private Christian school where the staff routinely recommends ADD meds for many of their students as well.  Knowing how dangerous these drugs are, I want to mail a copy of your book to everyone I know!  Of course, some might feel that I should mind my own business.  What have you found to be the best way to approach the subject?  I could really use some wisdom here.

Answer:

Regarding approaching others about the subject of psych drugs, it usually helps if you say you've just read the most amazing book from someone who was in the psychology field (worked as a therapist, worked in psych wards, etc.) who knows the real story behind mental disorders and psychiatric drugs. Then give the book or forward our newsletter to them (almost every issue has something about antidepressants in it, since they are very much under attack by many groups).

You'll find, as we have, that everyone has their opinions about psychology (everyone's an amateur therapist), but it's hard to argue with someone from the field who left it, due to what they saw that wasn't right and didn't line up with Scripture. Lisa's experience speaks volumes to people--she has the facts, while others just have their opinions.

Regarding the Christian school your children attend that routinely recommends drugs for ADD/ADHD, you might send the school administrators the following links in an email, and preface it with something like what I've described above. Most people are just ignorant, and when presented with the facts, usually are willing to listen (if not completely agree, due to their preconceptions).
