PSYCHOLOGY DEBUNKED

Exposing Psychology, Exalting Christ

December 2005

Welcome to the December issue!

With psychology literally translated "study of the soul," and psychiatry "the healing of the soul," these fields reflect more philosophy and religion than science. But we know the Bible--not psychological theory--contains the study of the soul, and the person of Jesus Christ--not psychiatric drugs--supplies the healing of the soul. The religions of psychology/psychiatry and Christianity are so diametrically opposed that integrating the two would be like wishing someone a Merry Halloween!

Case in point is ADHD, the subject of this month’s issue. Psychology’s explanation for a child’s inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity is a mental disorder called ADHD caused by a supposed chemical imbalance in the brain. The Bible’s explanation? Folly. Psychology’s solution for ADHD is psychiatric drugs. The Bible’s solution? Discipline.

"Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him." Proverbs 22:15, NKJV

This month we take a look at the actual definition of ADHD used by professionals making ADHD diagnoses—their definition may surprise you. We also include stories of children who died from ADHD drugs, and those who overcame their ADHD behaviors without drugs.

Merry Christmas, from our family to yours.

Yours in Christ,

The Bazlers

Tacoma Mall shooter on Ritalin

As the FDA researches ADHD drugs like Ritalin for long-term adverse side effects, real-life side effects are being felt by six innocent by-standers at a Tacoma Mall, who were gunned down November 20th by 20-year-old Dominick Sergio Maldonado wielding an assault rifle. Investigators searched Maldonado’s room and found the attention deficit drug methylphenidate (Ritalin) along with marijuana paraphernalia and a box of knives. Read the full story.

U.S. House: Schools cannot force ADHD drugs on students as a condition of attending class

On November 16th, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed legislation (HR 1790) barring schools from coercing students and their parents to take ADHD drugs and other "controlled substances" as a condition of attending school. Similar legislation passed through the House in December 2004, but it later died in the Senate. This year, let’s hope and pray that the Senate would step up and make this bill law. Get the details here.

"Our 14-year-old son died from Ritalin use"

A school social worker labeled first-grader Matthew Smith with ADHD and threatened his parents with reporting neglect if they did not put him on medication. The parents brought him to a pediatrician, who prescribed Matthew Ritalin after a "five minute pencil-twirling trick." After seven years of Ritalin use, Matthew (pictured here) died at the age of 14.

The autopsy showed an oversized and vessel-damaged heart. His certificate of death reads: "Death caused from Long Term Use of Methylphenidate, (Ritalin)." You can read his tragic story at his parents' website, http://www.ritalindeath.com/ (scroll down to "Our 14-year-old son died from Ritalin use").

Between 1990 and 2000, 186 deaths from methylphenidate were reported to the FDA MedWatch program, a voluntary reporting scheme, the numbers of which represent no more than 10 to 20 percent of the actual incidents (http://www.adhdfraud.org/commentary/1-6-02-2.htm). See photos of some of these deceased children here: http://www.ritalindeath.com/ADHD-Drug-Deaths.htm.

What is ADHD, anyway?

The term ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) sounds scientific and credible—even somewhat mysterious. Drug companies and psychiatrists insist it is a true disease. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that three to five percent of children have it (www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/adhd.cfm). But what exactly is ADHD? We’ve taken the mystery out of ADHD by transcribing a word-for-word definition taken straight from psychiatry’s bible of mental disorders, the DSM. You'll want to forward this to your all your relatives and friends who still take the ADHD diagnosis seriously.

Make your voice heard at the FDA

Now through February 28th, the FDA is accepting public comments about drug companies advertising their psychiatric drugs directly to consumers. We have posted our comments (see http://www.psychologydebunked.com/email0512_FDA.htm), which provide a brief overview of the chemical imbalance myth, the lack of testing and the harmful side effects that are frequently downplayed.

If you are fed up with the chemical imbalance lies and the downplaying of serious and potentially fatal side effects, you can voice your opinion here:  http://tinyurl.com/8gndt. Click on the "Submit Comment" button and the fill out the easy form. Feel free to copy and paste our comments and use as you see fit.
