Reader Letter, 12/21/05 Dear Lisa & Ryan: Thank you for that article on ADHD [see http://www.psychologydebunked.com/email0512_ADHD.htm]. My son, now 13, received that diagnosis from his elementary school when he was 8. Knowing then as I do now that psychology is a humanistic religion and nothing scientific about it, I challenged the school. At a meeting I was invited to by the school principal and counselor, they told me that tests confirmed that my son was ADHD and referred me to a psychologist for his treatment. I told them they better not put that label on my child and stigmatize him. I soundly refuted every one of their arguments and they finally had to admit that it wasn't really a diagnosis after all. They said the school system forced them into it in order to get their funding for specialized attention for children struggling in certain subjects. My son was having difficulty in language arts, and they couldn't put him in the program for professional tutoring unless they could put him in some sort of category. ADHD was the only category they could fit him in. They ended the meeting by reassuring me not to worry and that my son was probably normal. My son still hates school but video games manage to hold his attention for long periods of time and I don't know anyone who can beat him in a game of chess. He still struggles in language arts but excels in math and science. And he's a joy to be with. I'm glad there are ministries out there like yours who know their stuff and are beginning to break through to people with the truth. Internet
