Q&A

Question:

My sister just married a man with Asperger’s Syndrome. My initial understanding of this is that is has some elements of autism. However, my suspicion is that this sounds like another repackaged psychological term. What is this syndrome? Is there any truth to the label of this being called a real disease?

Answer:

According to the DSM-IV, someone with Asperger's Disorder has 1) impaired social interaction (e.g. no eye contact, shyness, isolation), and 2) restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests, and activities (e.g. fascination with train schedules, inflexible when routines change, repetitive movements, etc.), but unlike its sister Autistic Disorder, does not show delays in language or cognitive skills, and appears later in childhood.

While the cause of this disorder is not conclusively known, since it is so similar to Autism, we believe Asperger's may be caused by the same major factor that has been found to cause Autism: thimerosal, a preservative used in childhood vaccines that contains the neurotoxin mercury.

A recent study has tracked the rise and fall patterns of vaccines used that contained thimerosal ("fall" because drug manufacturers have removed the preservative after discovering its link to Autism), and as the number of vaccines containing the preservative has decreased, so has the number of cases of neurodevelopmental disorders like Autism in children.

Tragically, many of these drug manufacturers are now shipping their stockpiles of thimerosal-laced vaccines overseas, where standards and regulating bodies are frequently fewer. Countries such as China have recently discovered Autism because it is plaguing millions of their children since American vaccines were introduced there. See http://www.ahrp.org/cms/content/view/99/28/ and http://www.ahrp.org/cms/content/view/100/28/ for the latest work that AHRP is doing on this front.

Probably the best way to go about treating a child with permanent brain damage caused by mercury poisoning is to consult a medical doctor. Labeling a child with a psychiatric mental disorder and treating him or her with a mind-altering psychiatric drug to modify behavior will only worsen the situation, yet that is exactly what is happening to innocent children vaccinated with poison and then stigmatized with a mental disorder for life.
