Dear subscriber,
Greetings in Christ! Disease mongering, experimental child drugging, integration of the DSM with the Bible, and defining what it means to be helped… we have a great newsletter in store for you this month. We also compare psychology and Christianity in four areas, showing that the term “Christian psychology” is an oxymoron.
The Apostle Paul exhorts us to look not to philosophy (psychology and psychiatry are philosophies--not sciences), but rather to Christ, for help in life:
Col 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
If we are complete in Christ, then the help of a psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist or mind-altering pill becomes unnecessary.

Yesterday, kids were “just being kids.” Today, they have ADHD. Yesterday, we were shy. Today, we have social anxiety disorder. Ever hear of Restless Leg Syndrome? If you don’t think you have it, think again—or at least drug company ads would get you wondering. These are just a few examples of how Big Pharma and the psych field have convinced us that our normal behaviors and experiences are really diseases that require drug treatments.
This UK article reports, “Pharmaceutical companies are systematically creating diseases in order to sell more of their products, turning healthy people into patients and placing many at risk of harm, a special edition of a leading medical journal claims today. The practice of “disease-mongering” by the drug industry is promoting non-existent illnesses or exaggerating minor ones for the sake of profits, according to a set of essays published by the open-access journal Public Library of Science Medicine.”

This humorous L.A. Times Op-Ed penned by Bill Maher speaks the truth about so-called diseases, drug companies and the FDA. Read it here.

This ABC News article describes an abominable practice occurring right now at Massachusetts General Hospital: recruiting four to six year olds diagnosed with bipolar disorder to test a powerful and dangerous antipsychotic drug that is approved for use only in adults. Worse, the hospital’s recruitment tools make no mention of any of the drug’s dangers. Labeling little children with an imaginary disease based on observation of behavior, and drugging them with toxic poison under the guise of scientific inquiry, is not psychiatric help. It’s child abuse. Read the ABC News report here.

“Read Any Good Books Lately?” Ad Shows Bible and DSM together |
Pat Robertson’s Regent University placed a full-page ad in an APA publication showing the Bible stacked on top of a copy of the DSM, encouraging use of the Bible and the DSM together to treat the problems of life (see the ad here).
The ad states that “the DSM-IV and the Holy Bible belong together on the bookshelves of any future psychologist who desires to treat the whole person: body, mind and spirit.” Besides the question of why anyone would advertise use of the Bible to unregenerate psychologists and psychiatrists trained in ungodly, humanistic treatments, we ask, Why would we as Christians add worldly soul treatments like the DSM to the Bible, when the Bible tells us to avoid such worldly wisdom?
| “Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?” 1 Cor. 1:20 | |
| “…that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” 1 Cor. 2:5 | |
| “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.” 1 Cor. 3:19 | |
| “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.” Col. 2:8 |
The Bible makes it clear that Jesus Christ is the source of wisdom:
| “Christ, the power of God and the wisdom of God.” 1 Cor. 1:24 | |
| “Christ Jesus… became for us wisdom from God.” 1 Cor. 1:30 | |
| “Christ… in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Col. 2:2-3 |

Many Christian universities, pastors, and leaders of today believe we can combine psychology with the Bible and get the whole picture on how to treat the soul. Here we look at four broad areas where psychology and Christianity are as polar opposite as north and south, making combination of the two impossible. See the comparison here.http://www.psychologydebunked.com/email0605_psychvsbible.htm

This reader asks how we would respond to someone who says, “But psychotherapy / psychiatric drugs helped me.” This requires asking a more foundational question: What does it mean to be helped, from a biblical viewpoint? See our answer here.
