Q&A

I have been wondering about this from your site:

"There is no reason to take a pill for a mental disorder, like you would for true medical/physical conditions? The chemical-imbalance-in-the-brain theory has never been proven to cause mental disorders, despite popular belief and drug company marketing".

What might someone do that has hallucinations and has been diagnosed with schizophrenia?
[The Bazlers]  No objective medical test is run to make the diagnosis of schizophrenia, or any other mental disorder for that matter--only observations of behavior. The person who is hallucinating needs to draw near to Jesus Christ, for He gives us a spirit of power, love and a sound mind (2 Tim. 1:7). Hallucinations are either spiritual (demonic) or a result of a true physical problem, but psychiatry has never proven that any of their 374 mental disorders are medically based and thus require medication.

If a person with schizophrenia (or any other mental disorder) seems to be getting better after starting psychiatric medication, that does not prove the problem was caused by brain imbalances. The medication treats symptoms, not causes, because causes are unknown. Medications become brain-damaging band-aids at best—sedatives that numb symptoms and therefore seem to work. I could say I have anxiety, smoke marijuana, and get anxiety relief. Does that mean my anxiety was caused by an imbalance of THC in my brain? Of course not—the marijuana simply treated my anxiety symptoms, but did nothing to address the cause of my anxiety—and I damage my brain in the process. God’s Word and His indwelling Spirit can pinpoint the cause and help us overcome it, without killing brain cells, permanently altering brain chemistry, and potentially causing serious medical problems.

We also frequently hear, “but he is so much worse when he doesn’t take the meds.” We expect this, not because the drugs are effective, but because all psychiatric drugs have addictive properties, and withdrawal symptoms typically mimic symptoms of the underlying disorder. You think the disorder is resurfacing when drugs are discontinued or lessened, when in reality your drug addiction needs feeding.

Are you saying that there is never any mental disorders?
[The Bazlers] There are plenty of mental problems, but none are medically based and require a doctor to treat it. God is the caregiver of our souls, He is enough, and His grace is sufficient for us (see 2 Peter 1:3, Colossians 2:3, 8, 10, 2 Cor. 12:7-9).

What about Alzheimer's?  That disease affects the brain.
[The Bazlers] Yes, Alzheimers has been proven to be a true disease that affects the brain. We should certainly see a doctor and take medications that are proven safe and effective in treating the disease.

I have visited a family member in a mental institution and those people sure seem as if they have mental disorders being behind locked doors and all?
[The Bazlers] This life can drive people mad, if the love of Jesus Christ is not in their life.

I am searching and praying because another close family member may seem to have ADD and a Christian psychologist told me that mental disorders run in my family ( they sure seem to)
[The Bazlers] ADD is an INVENTION of the psychiatry industry - it never existed 40 years ago. Now everyone has ADD/ADHD because slick drug company marketing has convinced us so. See excerpt from one of our presentations on the psychiatric and biblical treatments of ADHD:

ADD/ADHD

Psychiatric diagnosis and treatment: take a drug for your chemical imbalance. You have a disease.

Biblical diagnosis and treatment

–ADHD behavior can either be sin, or a normal part of growing up. Either way, ADHD becomes an accountable and correctible behavior, not an uncontrollable disease.

–Start with the physical

•Some behaviors could be a direct result of a physical problem – consult a true medical doctor who runs objective medical tests.

–Then the practical

•Diet, Exercise, Sleep, Attention

–Then the spiritual

•Love, teach and discipline

"…that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God would not be blasphemed." Titus 2:4-5

"And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord." Ephesians 6:4

"Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul." Proverbs 29:17

"Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him." Proverbs 22:15

"The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother." Proverbs 29:15

Are these answered in your book? I would appreciate any answers.
[The Bazlers] Yes, our book provides an overview of the ineffectiveness and dangers of psychotherapy and psychiatric drugs, the differences between psychology and Christianity, and practical biblical advice on overcoming common mental disorders.
