Exposing Psychology, Exalting Christ

8 Things You Need to Know...

Dear subscriber,

Greetings in Christ! This month we review ADHD in depth, including its nebulous definition, its potential causes rooted in diet and the physical rather than the brain, its drug side effects, and its biblical diagnosis and treatment.

We also review the latest disorder of the month promoted by psychiatry and funded with drug company money: Intermittent Explosive Disorder. While psychiatry calls those with explosive anger victims of an uncontrollable brain disorder, the Bible commands us to put off this kind of behavior:

Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

Col 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

1Ti 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Jam 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

Jam 1:20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

If explosive anger were an uncontrollable brain disorder, why would God command us to “put it off?” Why would He tell us to do something we have no power to do?

We hope you enjoy the issue.

In Jesus,

Lisa and Ryan Bazler

Intermittent Explosive Disorder: Newly Discovered or Overly Promoted?

Not satisfied with the billions in sales of antidepressants and stimulants for ADHD, the drug powers that be have decided to promote a little-known disorder from the 1994 DSM-IV: Intermittent Explosive Disorder. According to a study headed by drug company-funded academic researchers and financed by the drug-company funded National Institute of Mental Health, over seven percent of American adults—that’s 16 million people—suffer from this disorder, characterized by “episodes of impulsive aggressiveness ‘grossly out of proportion to any precipitating psychosocial stressor,’ at any time in their life. The person must have ‘all of a sudden lost control and broke or smashed something worth more than a few dollars… hit or tried to hurt someone… or threatened to hit or hurt someone.” What used to be an obscure and uncommon disorder has suspiciously become a national epidemic almost overnight.

The cure for this growing disease? Although no drug has been approved specifically for this disorder, psychiatrists have used mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, and even antidepressants, and you can bet their prescriptions for these drugs will take off as patients complain about their or their spouse’s IED.

Outbursts of wrath are no longer a moral sin of the flesh, but a medical disease of the brain. How many more absurd disorders like IED and ADHD will we just roll over and accept, without a shred of proof showing a true medical condition? IED is simply another example of psychiatric big business shrouded in scientific rhetoric, exploiting the temptation to excuse wrong behavior. People diagnosed with mental disorders do not have uncontrollable brain diseases—they have controllable sins of the flesh that need to be forgiven and overcome by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

ADHD Drugs Sending Thousands to Hospital ERs

In February, the FDA’s Advisory Committee recommended label warnings for all ADHD drugs (Ritalin, Adderall, Concerta, Dexedrine, Cylert, etc.), warning of high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke and sudden death in children and adults taking these drugs. The next month, the FDA ignored its own advisory committee’s advice, and the cries of unsuspecting victims continue to sound from ERs across the country. According to a recent CDC study, 3,100 ADHD drug users visit hospital ERs each year in the U.S. Causes range from side effects like chest pain, stroke, high blood pressure and fast heart rate, to overdose and accidental use—not surprising, considering most ADHD drugs are a legal form of speed. Video Shows Experts Cannot Define ADHD

This 1 minute, 38 second clip from a 1998 NIH conference on ADHD gives an inside peek at how the experts attempt to define the disorder. The label has become so subjective that this particular panelist, who regularly diagnoses patients with ADHD in his practice, couldn’t even describe the disorder when asked. Is it Really ADHD?

Kenneth Thomas, a registered nurse for 29 years, explains that ADHD symptoms are frequently the result of diet, iron deficiencies, or real physical illness “treatable by medical, non-psychiatric means.”  He debunks the psychiatric myth that brain disorders cause mental illness and points to practical, objective, medical reasons for a child’s ADHD-like behavior. Q&A

A visitor asks us some good clarifying questions about our statement on our website: “There is no reason to take a pill for a mental disorder, like you would for true medical/physical conditions? The chemical-imbalance-in-the-brain theory has never been proven to cause mental disorders, despite popular belief and drug company marketing.” See the Qs and As here, which also includes a biblical diagnosis and treatment of ADHD.
