Q&A

Question:

If "bipolar disorder" is fake then what is happening to us? Why can we feel our bodies shift from one state to another? Is PMS all in our minds? Is the brain not a physical part of the body? Can it not malfunction? Is alzheimers fake too? Are you saying that a malfunctioning brain cannot affect the body and mind? If you do not believe in drug therapy and psychology then what is your alternative medicine? People are dealing with this everyday so saying that it doesn't exist isn't helping anyone.

Something is wrong...what would Jesus do? What did he do when the man was demon possessed and throwing himself in the fire? What does Jesus say now? He loves us and is interceding for us.

P.S. I am not saying that I believe in psychology, I do however live with this problem everyday without drugs or therapy. It is a constant huge struggle everyday of my life. Have you anything to offer me?

Answer:

Thank you for contacting us. That's great that you haven't turned to therapy or drugs to treat the bipolar symptoms you are experiencing. We certainly realize that bipolar symptoms exist - we are simply saying that bipolar disorder is not a true medical disease of the brain requiring mind-altering psychiatric drugs. Rather, bipolar is a subjective, mental/behavioral label consisting of a list of symptoms, believed by psychiatrists to be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. But to date no objective test exists to prove that someone has chemical brain imbalances and that those imbalances causes mental disorders like bipolar.

The psychiatric drugs used to treat bipolar disorder are really treating the SYMPTOMS of the problem, and not the cause, and therein lies the problem. The key to overcoming any mental "disorder" is to identify the cause, and THEN to treat it appropriately. Any medical doctor would take this approach, except the psychiatrist.

We typically classify the causes of all mental disorders into four areas:

1) Caused by a true MEDICAL problem (that can be objectively tested and measured) - see http://home.att.net/~LetFreedomRing/updates/MedProbs.html. Certainly, medical treatments proven safe and effective would be appropriate here.

2) Caused by PRACTICAL lifestyle (diet, sleep, exercise, stress, isolation, etc.)

3) Caused by SPIRITUAL sin (selfishness, self-fulfillment, self-focus, pride, walking in the flesh, etc.) - the Bible is our authority in this area, and Jesus will cleanse and help us as we repent and resume our walk with Him

4) Caused by NORMAL life experiences and suffering - the Bible and God's grace are sufficient helps
