8 Things You Need to Know...

Dear subscriber,

Grace and peace to you! One of our favorite worship songs, Enough, could be the theme song of our ministry. We believe God inspired the words of this song to remind His beloved children that His grace is more than enough for the longings of our souls.

Enough

Chorus:

All of you

Is more than enough for all of me

For every thirst and every need

You satisfy me with your love

And all I have in you is more than enough

You are my supply

My breath of life

Still more awesome than I know

You are my reward

Worth living for

Still more awesome than I know

You’re my sacrifice

Of greatest price

And still more awesome than I know

You’re my coming king

You are everything

Still more awesome than I know

More than all I want

More than all I need

You are more than enough for me

More than all I know

More than all I can see

You are more than enough for me

This month, we see how cursed and complex life can get when we view ourselves through the lens of mental disorders and then look to worldly, ineffective, hazardous solutions of soul treatment for help. There is a better way, and it’s a blessed way!

Don’t miss this month’s Q&A, where we classify the causes of all mental disorders into four broad areas. Doing this simple classification first will avoid many pitfalls and problems later. God bless you as you seek His face, His coming kingdom, and His right ways of living.

In Jesus,

Lisa and Ryan Bazler

Teacher blames sex with 14-year-old student on her bipolar disorder

Charges against 25-year-old teacher Debra Lafave of Tampa, Florida for having sex on multiple occasions with a 14-year-old minor have been dropped. Instead of prison time, Lafave will spend three years under house arrest and seven years on probation. Why did she do it? Bipolar disorder. Says Lafave: “I want the world to see that bipolar is real. Not one time has the media brought up the subject of my bipolar. I challenge you to read a book or an article on bipolar illness.” Read the full article here.

Use of antipsychotics to control children rises fivefold despite lack of FDA approval

A recent Columbia University study found that antipsychotic drug prescriptions for under-18s rose fivefold between the years of 1993-1995 and 2002 to 1.2 million prescriptions, primarily for treatment of bipolar disorder. This in spite of the fact that antipsychotic drugs like Clozaril, Risperdal, Seroquel, Zyprexa, Haldol, Navane, and Prolixin are by far the most toxic of all psychiatric drugs—causing weight gain, diabetes, irreversible abnormal movements, tremors, awkward gait, psychosis, coma, and death in some cases—and have not been FDA-approved for use in children. The study found that 40% of the children prescribed these drugs were on at least one other psychiatric drug. Could psychiatrists be treating ADHD drug-induced aggression and mania with antipsychotics? Here are two articles with more details:

New potential disorder for DSM-V: Relational disorder

With the majority of DSM authors receiving financial incentives from drug companies, it’s not surprising that the number of mental disorders listed in the DSM grows with each edition, widening the definition of sickness and therefore expanding the industry’s potential customer base. This article gives a sneak peak at a new disorder that may appear in the DSM-V due out in 2011: Relational disorder, defined as “a dysfunctional relationship in which ‘neither person is mentally ill but the relationship is.' She said she wonders what would happen when an afflicted couple visits the doctor's office for help. ‘The psychiatrist takes out a pill. ... Where does the psychiatrist put it?’ she asked.” The article also lists a few laughable mental disorders in DSM-IV, such as mathematics disorder, reading disorder and the dreaded disorder of written expression.

New museum now open: Psychiatry – An Industry of Death

Last month we featured a video clip from a 1998 NIH conference on ADHD showing an expert panelist unable to define ADHD (see http://www.cchr.org/uploads/video/nih_adhd.wmv). This clip is just a sampling of the eye-opening plethora of videos, research and exhibits provided at the “Psychiatry – An Industry of Death” museum. I (Ryan) visited the museum—located inside the Citizens Commission on Human Rights headquarters in Hollywood, California—and left simultaneously shocked, informed, and motivated to tell others of the inhumane, money-driven treatments that have characterized psychiatry from its very beginnings to the present day. If you or someone you know will be in Southern California, we highly recommend visiting the museum. It is free to the public, and will change the way you think about the mental health profession forever. See the brief promotional video here.

TeenScreen petition gaining momentum – please take a few seconds to sign your name

Do you agree with universal screening of school children for mental illness, invariably leading to social stigma and drug dependence? Letters

This reader writes, “I truly believe all good things come from God and that includes knowledge and the ability to develop medications for the treatment of ALL diseases – physical and psychiatric. ” Read the letter here, and our response to this reader’s misconception that physical and psychiatric diseases are one in the same.
