Dear reader,
Hello again, and greetings in the saving and sanctifying name of Jesus Christ!
In last month's issue, we classified the causes of all mental disorders into four broad areas: MEDICAL, PRACTICAL, SPIRITUAL, and NORMAL. In our ministry we typically focus on the spiritual since God must be in the center of our lives for everything else to fall into place (Matt. 6:33). But this month, we take a look at some of the medical and practical causes of mental disorders. We also see how Teenscreen in our public schools is taking after the drug companies by calling normal childhood behavior a disease for the sake of growing the pharma and psych industries.
This months Q&A lists resources on how to successfully withdraw from psychiatric medications, and don't miss the letter from a church counselor who has witnessed psychology's destructive forces firsthand.
Keep looking up,
Lisa and Ryan Bazler

FDA orders stronger warnings on ADHD drug labels for "serious cardiovascular and psychiatric events" |
In May of this year, the FDA ordered all ADHD drug manufacturers to strengthen their warning labels "with regard to serious cardiovascular events and psychiatric events." While not a full-blown black box label warning, which only Adderral contains (warning of its high potential of abuse), the FDA order legitimizes recent research findings that all ADHD drugs can cause high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke and sudden death in children and adults. TeenScreen creator's study links antidepressants with youth suicide |
Columbia University has recently release a study showing a direct link between antidepressant use and youth suicide, consistent with FDA findings in 2004. Dr. David Schaffer, Columbia psychiatrist and creator of the TeenScreen suicide prevention program, participated in the study. Dr. Schaffer's TeenScreen program screens schoolchildren for suicide and refers them to treatment (drugs), yet his own study shows these drug treatments can cause schoolchildren to kill themselves! Read the details of the study here.

TeenScreen turns normal childhood experiences into diseases requiring treatment |
Drug companies, psych professionals, doctors and now schools insist our thoughts and behaviors once believed to be normal are really disorders and diseases in need of their cures. Our government's flagship youth mental health program, TeenScreen, promises to bring mental health and suicide prevention to our 52 million schoolchildren. But investigative journalist Evelyn Pringle thinks differently. Study: Two weeks of lifestyle changes improve brain function |
We believe many mental health symptoms that psychiatry would classify as mental disorders are actually caused by practical lifestyle choices, including diet, exercise, and stress levels, as this study confirms: "Simple lifestyle changes, including memory exercises, daily exercise, relaxation techniques, and a healthy diet, significantly improve cognitive function and brain efficiency in as little as 2 weeks, a small pilot study suggests." Doctor and author: Poor nutrition to the brain may cause mental disorders |
"Our brain is basically just another organ with nutritional requirements. It doesnt need some psychological diagnosis; just proper nutrition!" says Dr. David W. Tanton, Ph.D., author of the informative and comprehensive resource guide "A Drug-Free Approach to Healthcare." His article "Evaluating Psychiatry" explains why.

An estimated 10-20% of mental disorders are caused by true medical problems that can be objectively tested and measured (unproven chemical imbalances in the brain do not qualify). This handy webpage lists medical explanations for many common mental disorders like depression, anxiety, bipolar and psychosis, and also lists adverse mental effects of common medical diseases. The author also likens the practice of a psychiatrist prescribing meds absent medical testing and casual analysis to "prescribing pain killers for a broken limb in the emergency room and then sending the person home." Check out this incredible resource here.
