Dear Friend,
As we approach Thanksgiving day, we have much for which to be thankful. Many of us have our health, our husbands or wives, our children, our grandchildren, friends, shelter, a job, a ministry, and three meals a day. We're children of God, completely forgiven of all of our sins. We don't have to pay the penalty for our sins in a horrible and real place called hell. Hallelujah! God has paid our fine for us on the cross, and reserved a place for us in heaven! God loves us so much. He's given us the Holy Spirit in our hearts--a deposit guaranteeing what is to come. He is our comforter, our strength, our guide. Thank God for who He is and what He's done for us!
We're also thankful for our beautiful and blessed country. But it's clear we as a people are lost spiritually and continue to reap the results of our rebellion against God and our insistence that He has no place in our society. From family massacres to child screening and drugging, the family unit--the basis of a society--is crumbling. Restoring the family unit and ultimately our country starts with us. God expects us to be the ones who set the example for the world. Not to copy the world's ways, as some Christian churches do when they import psychology, but to realize we have the answers for how to live as God intended:
God's Word tells us what's right (doctrine), what's wrong (reproof), what to do (instruction in righteousness), and what not to do (correction). The result? We become perfect (complete), thoroughly ready for any and all good works God would have us do. But some pastors, like those described in this month's letters and Q&A, believe they are ill-equipped to handle psychological issues, so they defer their people to the "professionals."
Also in this issue - could deficiencies in vitamins and minerals contribute to mental illness? We'll answer this question.
Finally, don't miss the "Town of Allopath" cartoon, alone worth forwarding to your friends.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Lisa and Ryan Bazler

Three family massacres perpetrated by dads on antidepressants |
November 13, 2006 - Kenton, Newcastle, UK: Neil Crampton, 33, fatally stabs his wife, brother-in-law, 12-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son in their home. Crampton was taking Prozac tablets for depression before the attack.

January 20, 2006 - Charlotte, North Carolina: Bank executive David Crespi stabbed his 5-year-old twin girls, Tessara and Samantha, to death in their upscale home, and threatened to kill himself. Crespi had switched to a new antidepressant, Prozac, just days before the murders (the FDA has warned of homicidal side effects, esp. when starting or changing medications). Oprah recently interviewed Crespi from his jail cell, but instead of speaking the truth about the drug's effects on Crespi, the show led viewers to believe he simply took the wrong type of medication!

July 12, 2004 - East Gresford, Upper Hunter, Australia: Michael Richardson, 32, stabs and suffocates wife, then stabs and kills 3-year-old son Luke and 20-month-old daughter Grace before fatally shooting himself. The article states, "An autopsy revealed that at the time of his death Mr. Richardson had a dose of the antidepressant citalopram {Celexa} in his system higher than that prescribed and that this may have caused him to become agitated and irritable."

VP of Swedish Psychiatric Association says antidepressants don't work |
This Swedish investigative reporter states in her November 16th article:
Speaking on antidepressants the Vice President of The Swedish Psychiatric Association, Dr. Christina Spjut said Sunday that "an immense number of persons get worse from this". She said that many persons take these drugs for years "where the antidepressant drugs make them continue to be depressed". The article also correctly states that no test data exists showing that antidepressants perform measurably better than placebo. Read the full article here.

NY Times: "What's Wrong With a Child? Psychiatrists Often Disagree" |
Our children represent the next frontier for the mental health and pharmaceutical industries, labeling normal behavior as abnormal and accountable behavior as a disease or disorder, and then pushing drugs as the solution. This New York Times article gives us clues on what to expect in the future regarding our children's mental health, and sheds light on the subjective, trial-and-error, pseudo-scientific madness that characterizes the diagnosis and treatment of children by the mental health profession:
"What followed was a string of office visits with psychologists, social workers and psychiatrists. Each had an idea about what was wrong, and a specific diagnosis: "Compulsive tendencies," one said. "Oppositional defiant disorder," another concluded. Others said "pervasive developmental disorder," or some combination. Each diagnosis was accompanied by a different regimen of drug treatments. By the time the boy turned 11, Ms. Williams said, the medical record had taken still another turn - to bipolar disorder - and with it a whole new set of drug prescriptions." Indiana passes plan for mental screening of all children in the state from birth to 22 |
Following in Illinois' footsteps, Indiana is the latest state to pass a plan to implement universal mental health screening of all children in the state from birth to age 22. The vote passed 11 to 1 on October 25th. Now the floodgates have been opened for crying babies and misbehaving children to be diagnosed with mental disorders and treated with dangerous, toxic psychiatric drugs. Learn more about this screening plan and the public's outrage here: http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2006/10/indiana_mental_.html

Are deficiencies in vitamins and minerals tied to mental illness? |
Common sense says nutrition affects how we feel and how we think. Could deficiencies in vitamins and minerals be tied to mental illness? This valuable quick reference webpage correlates major vitamins and minerals with symptoms of mental illness that can appear when those vitamins and minerals are not present in the body.

Correction:
Last month, we included a link to a press release that stated the mental health agencies of Massachusetts, Maine and Rhode Island recently admitted to having no proof of the chemical imbalance theory and no test showing how much of a chemical is normal or abnormal. We have researched this further and have discovered that this press release misleads the reader by implying that these agencies expressly admitted to these things, which was not the case. Rather, the agencies responded to the inquiry they received by stating that information relating to the questions asked was simply not available. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
