Reader Letter

2/2/07

Having a degree in Psychology, and also having been on the receiving end of the abuse of industry, I've had a lot of time to think through and also experience the ramifications of being trapped in the cycle of taking the drugs, and paying the consequences.

As you know in Galatians 5 Paul discusses the struggle between the old and new nature: namely, walking according to the flesh, walking according to the Spirit, and then lists attributes characterizing those two lives.

The carnal Christian participates in activities that stimulate his old nature.  For me, notably, drunkenness and sorcery stand out.  Now, while I have little problems avoiding being drunk, none the less, over the years, I have been trapped in the sin of "sorcery" not that I have been frequenting a witches coven, or using an Ouija board, but indeed, participating in the drug related aspect of the sin.  Although the mind altering drugs are being prescribed by a Psychiatrist, it is still, functionally, no different in effect than if I had gone to a person dealing illegal street drugs.

You know, it occurs to me, that while we have examples of legitimate doctors in the Bible, there is no mention of Psychiatrists, other than the closest example we have of secular Greek philosophers.

The issue is, whether it is alcohol, sexual immorality, or drugs, that once a believer becomes trapped in a carnal sin, it leads inevitably to MORE carnality.  He is carnal, and his repetitive sin separates him from God and the power of the Holy Spirit in his life.  He is subject to possibly rage, enmity, strife... all carnal behaviors we see for instance, in a person who is a drunkard.  His short circuited relationship with the Holy Spirit has left him only the flesh to fall back on, and his sinful inclinations.

No court could order me to drink alcohol, until I was drunk; but I have been ordered to take a drug, which for me, leaves me in a carnal state, as well as affecting my job performance and health. I need to be mindful to confess my taking the drugs every day for what it is: to me, sin (a stumbling block).

The thief (Satan) comes to steal and kill and destroy - and that's what is happening to the lives of the millions of people who are choosing to follow the recommendations of the Psychiatric industry.

In studying the aspects of the lives of people using illegal street drugs, a common theme is that the quality of everyone's life involved with or supporting the drug abuser also deteriorates; and sure enough, I can say my participation in Psychiatric drugs has affected my [family].

I am now court ordered to take a monthly blood test for my Lithium levels.  My

Psychiatrist insists on a fairly high dose - to "account for the effects of different foods like grapefruit" which can lower Lithium levels.  As you and I both know, one has to take a near toxic dose of Lithium in order for it to be "effective" (sarcasm - I suppose the same criteria applies to arsenic).

If I were court ordered to drink Clorox Bleach, I'm sure a blood test could be devised to see if I was taking the "therapeutic" level - which in this case, would be to insure my death.

Note this definition from Vines Expository dictionary of New Testament words:

<A-1,Noun,5331,pharmakia[-eia]>
(Eng., "pharmacy," etc.) primarily signified "the use of medicine, drugs, spells;" then, "poisoning;" then, "sorcery," Gal. 5:20

It goes on to speak of incantations, but this aspect of sorcery has been discarded, and replaced with short counseling sessions with a Psychiatrist.

Its ironic - I've struggled with my singleness for years, fighting endless battles of sexual temptation.  Both of my Psychiatrists insisted and insist on the drug to "curb my sexual appetite" - meanwhile, my first Psychiatrist was sued for a sexual affair with one of is patients, and my current Psychiatrist brags he does not wear cologne to "mask his pheromones":  he confessed to me with a locker room talk sarcasm that HE LIKES TO HAVE WOMEN HIT ON HIM.  His wife is also an alcoholic... are you surprised?

Poisoning.  It is just a matter of time before [my health] is jeopardized, as the Lithium saturates my thyroid gland to toxic proportions.

I know that I have my own sins and inclinations that I have to deal with. This whole matter could be a judgment - a form of disciplining for decisions I have made about sin over the years.  Now, facing the severe consequences, I am taking every step I can to avoid the sins which may have landed me here in the first place.

Again, thank you for your help.  It actually is more helpful to me to write these things out, as I really, literally have no one in town to talk about these matters. When I got in trouble with the law I insisted on including a Christian counselor along with the conditions of my probation.  While he will listen to my objections, he simply gives a polite nod of the head, but will allow for others of his clients to take the drugs, and applaud their responsible decision to do so.  He gets paid either way.

I was shocked and demoralized when I found staff members at Focus on the Family are taking antidepressants, and praising the effectiveness of the drugs. I ran into one Focus' staff member who told me, "Antidepressants saved my life - I wouldn't be alive today if I hadn't taken them".

Mr. & Mrs. Bazler, the Word clearly indicates that the Church would be characterized by Apostasy in the last days.  That a Focus on the Family staff member (and I am sure others on staff are involved in the use of dangerous drugs) does not surprise me.

Please pray that God would raise up a local support group for me.

Thanks for your work.
