Dear Friend,
Greetings in Christ! A question for you: if your spouse was unfaithful to you, and when confronted told you that he/she was suffering from sex addiction and was taking a psychiatric drug to treat their disease, would you buy it? Or would you call it for what it was: adultery, a sin against God and against you?
The church at large is increasingly buying the lie that morality and spirituality can be medicalized and treated with a pill. When we medicalize behavior, we undermine the gospel of Christ. I am no longer responsible to God or to others for my actions. It's not sin; it's a disease. I don't need a Savior and Sanctifier; I need a mind doctor. The medicalizing of behavior falls under the "science falsely so called" that the Apostle Paul exhorts pastor Timothy to avoid:
That science that opposes the truth of the gospel is falsely so called; it is not true science, for if it were it would approve of the gospel and consent to it. Those who are so fond of such science are in great danger of erring concerning the faith; those who are for advancing reason above faith are in danger of leaving faith. Matthew Henry

On February 21, 2007, the FDA "directed the manufacturers of all drug products approved for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) to develop Patient Medication Guides to alert patients to possible cardiovascular risks and risks of adverse psychiatric symptoms associated with the medicines, and to advise them of precautions that can be taken." Last year, the FDA directed ADHD drug companies to update their product labeling with these risks, which include high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke, sudden death, hearing voices, becoming suspicious for no reason, and becoming manic. Regardless of drug warnings, the ADHD label itself is an invention of the psychiatric industry with no medical justification and therefore no reason to take a drug for it. Dr. Fred Baughman, board-certified child and adult neurologist for the past 35 years and a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, has just released a book The ADHD Fraud, available at http://www.adhdfraud.org/. Baughman states:
"For a disease to exist there must be a tangible, objective physical abnormality that can be determined by a test such as, but not limited to, blood or urine test, X-Ray, brain scan or biopsy. All reputable doctors would agree: No physical abnormality, no disease. In psychiatry, no test or brain scan exists to prove that a 'mental disorder' is a physical disease. Disingenuous comparisons between physical and mental illness and medicine are simply part of psychiatry's orchestrated but fraudulent public relations and marketing campaign."
