Reader Letters - bipolar disorder

7/27/07:

Ryan and Lisa,

I haven't read your book yet, but I heard Ryan today on Return to the Word in Denver of 670 KLT.  My husband and I support your ministry 100%.  He is a Chiropractor and I have a personal story of being grossly misdiagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in August 2004.  I was placed on Risperdal and Depakote involuntary for 2 weeks due to an extreme circumstance.  I was told by a psychiatrist that I would be able to hold a job and have normal relationships if I stayed on the medication.  Thankfully I only took the medications for 4 weeks total, but I still had to wean off of them and my husband helped me.  I've not touched those drugs in almost 3 years and I am more mentally and physically healthy than most of the people I know.

I'm grateful neither myself or my husband would allow ourselves to be convinced that I had a "mental disorder".  I minored in psychology in college, graduating in 1997.  At that time, Bipolar Disorder was on the DSM but was thought of as a rare mental disorder.  How amazingly things have degraded only 10 years later.  He and I have talked about writing a book very much like the one you have, or starting a website for Christians that addresses both physical and mental health issues.

We, too, don't understand why it's controversial to promote God's design for our health, mental and physical.  He designed us to have feelings and emotions in response to the things going on in our lives.  He designed us to be healthy when we have the right nutrients, minerals, and vitamins put into our bodies, are physically active and growing spiritually.  Instead Americans are poisoning their bodies and their brains with pharmaceutical drugs.

Thank you again for having the passion and courage to dispel the destructive, yet well accepted, myth of psychology and psychiatry.

To: Bottom Line Secrets about a recent bipolar article

About BiPolar Disorder - I have been dealing with this issue for 20 years.  If you will check the website www.PsychologyDebunked.com and also follow the research of Dr. Peter Breggin, you may see that from a Biblical point of view, the allegations of the Industry about this "disorder" are in many ways, bogus.

After having been accused of having the disorder, I of course did research, as any responsible person would if given that kind of news, and examined my life, I found some life changes that would make a difference in my emotional well being.

The sly "Doctors" fail to point out (to their advantage) the ravages of food ingredients and other substances that can be abused or mixed to produce erratic mood swings - alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, ginseng, sports drinks, and of course, illegal street drugs that the "patient" will definitely refuse at times to tell the "doctor" he is taking (for fear of legal problems) thus skewing the data base by which the Psychiatrist makes a determination of the "disease" - which may be nothing more than the predictable mood swings as he comes off the drug (say LSD, Crystal Meth - I guess you could do some time in jail if you confessed to that.)  But I'm sure the illegal street drug user would be glad to hide these facts, and let the Psychiatrist draw his conclusions about the existence of a disease, not a lifestyle.

Mix coca cola, caffeine, sugar, ginseng, other GNC products like diet pills, and I can guarantee you quite an emotional rollercoaster for a ride.  Nicotine highs, and depression as you come off.

Add to this nutritional/drug cocktail the fact that many people are stuck in sin, and many who have no relationship with Jesus Christ whatsoever, or, a bad relationship where sin blocks fellowship, you have  A REAL SITUATION for depression - the very real danger of spending eternity in Hell (and deep in their spirit - the petty thief at work, or shoplifter, or the Enron Executive stealing millions of dollars, they know it).

Real sins, real problems, hidden agendas, leading to real guilt, and real separation from a God who has offered His Solution - the Power of the Holy Spirit to overcome the world and the devil.

Mr. Editor, if you were unaware of my motives, in a casual "friendship" - I could take you to a 7 11 convenience store, a bar, a GNC health food store, and throw in a few cigarettes, and make you as Bi Polar as I want NUTRITIONALLY.

It's God's mighty Holy Spirit who can lead us out of these traps, and let us lead the Supernatural Peaceful lives He promised (Jesus said PEACE I leave with you... Not MANIA).

So who wins and who loses?  Well, the Psychiatrist "wins" by paying his bills with your money.  Your competitor wins, because he gets the job you lost because of the allegation you are unstable, or the company's fear of high insurance bills to maintain your hospitalizations and lost work time.

Who loses?  Well, unless one is wise, and prays about this matter, and allows God to lead him to good choices (avoiding street drugs, deciding how many "upper" "downer" foods to eat, and to confess and forsake sin, which separates him from God) - he loses.  Months wasted in hospitals.  Thousands of dollars spent on snake oil drugs that do not work, a soiled reputation, and a life ruined.

Yes Mr. Editor, people who are accused in the modern day witch hunt lose status and friends - even spouses...

The truth will set you free.
