Reader Letter

8/22/07:

Hi,

Are you familiar with Jay E. Adams, for example at

http://www.peacemakers.net/unity/adepressed.htm

His method is from "Nouthetic Counseling" which is based entirely upon Bible principles. --

http://www.nouthetic.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=80

I have been doing this w/ my pastor and a mentor for a year and a half and had better results than
20 years of secular counseling. This is because secular counseling teaches almost the EXACT OPPOSITE of what the Bible teaches!

I was curious if you knew of any resources to help me further wean off my bipolar medications, my psychiatrist is very reluctantly doing this w/ me but it sure is tough swimming upstream, when he is so skeptical that Jesus Christ has healed my "illness".

I sure do know the dangers of sudden stopping these meds (I have been on lamictal and depakote) - but I do think relying on them is counter-productive to God's plans for my life.

Let me know if you have heard of anyone who deals with helping people get off psychiatric meds.

Sincerely,

Thank you for your website!

Steadfastness in believing doth not exclude all temptations from without. When we say a tree is firmly rooted, we do not say the wind never blows upon it. -- John Owen
