Reader Letter
8/22/07:
Hi, Are you familiar with Jay E. Adams, for example at http://www.peacemakers.net/unity/adepressed.htm His method is from "Nouthetic Counseling" which is based entirely upon Bible principles. -- http://www.nouthetic.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=80 I have been doing this w/ my pastor and a mentor for a year and a half and had better results than 20 years of secular counseling. This is because secular counseling teaches almost the EXACT OPPOSITE of what the Bible teaches! I was curious if you knew of any resources to help me further wean off my bipolar medications, my psychiatrist is very reluctantly doing this w/ me but it sure is tough swimming upstream, when he is so skeptical that Jesus Christ has healed my "illness". I sure do know the dangers of sudden stopping these meds (I have been on lamictal and depakote) - but I do think relying on them is counter-productive to God's plans for my life. Let me know if you have heard of anyone who deals with helping people get off psychiatric meds. Sincerely,
