Dear Friend,

Welcome to the May 2009 issue of the Psychology Debunked newsletter! In celebration of Mother's Day this month, I dedicate this issue to all mothers, especially my mother who is with the Lord, and who I miss dearly. Thank God for mothers who sacrifice themselves for the sake of their children.

Speaking of sacrifices, we also dedicate this issue to all those serving in our military. We thank them for all they do to keep our country safe, and the personal sacrifices they have made to fulfill their duties. As you may know, military suicide rates have increased lately, the causes about which we discuss in this issue.

Continuing our focus on ways we can improve our marriages, here is Commandment #4 of our "Ten Commandments of a Blessed Marriage:"

4. Please by priority. Serve first God, then your spouse, then your children, parents and the church, then the rest of the world. Never seek to please self at the expense of God or others.

Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Jam 3:16 For where envying and strife [is], there [is] confusion and every evil work.

Incorrect priorities will cause too much attention and affection in some places, and not enough in others. But when priorities line up with God's designed order, each relationship is given its proper importance, and time is spent most wisely.

This month, another baby is dead thanks to antidepressant side effects; Columbine's 10th anniversary; PTSD drugs cause a spike in military deaths and suicides; comparisons between mental disorders and true diseases; nutritional and medical causes of mental disorders; and discussions on the mental and the physical, the mind and the brain.

Seeking Him first,

Matthew Schultz: dead from Effexor two hours after birth

Christiane Schultz and her husband Amery cherished the two short hours they had with their new baby boy Matthew, before he died in their arms from side effects of the antidepressant Effexor taken by mom during pregnancy. Read more about Matthew's story here.

See a short YouTube video of Amery holding Matthew at the hospital here.

If the Mothers Act passes, there will be thousands of Matthews and Indianas dying across the country from their mother's depression drugs taken during and after pregnancy. A recent WorldNet Daily article explains the Mothers Act in detail, as does this article by pastor and teacher Chuck Missler.

Please continue to pray for this insidious act to fail the Senate. Here's what else you can do (scroll to bottom of page).

On Columbine's 10th anny, Harris' antidepressant use denied by mass media

April 20th, 2009 marked the 10th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre. It has been widely known that Eric Harris was taking the antidepressant Luvox at the time of the shooting, and his accomplice Dylan Klebold was receiving psychological counseling. But thanks to drug company bought mass media like USA Today, this fact is being outright denied. Dr. Ann Blake Tracy, antidepressant expert, gives us the straight facts in this press release, which includes:

* Joint statement from the family of a Columbine victim & the family of the
Red Lake, MN school shooter - total dead 25, total wounded 31

* Testimony of Columbine shooting victim Mark Allen Taylor, before the FDA

* Statement by Michael Moore about the cause of Columbine after making the
movie, "Bowling for Columbine"

* New Medical Article Linking Antidepressants to Murder/Suicide in the
Spring Issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons

Is the economy causing US family killings?

What used to be horrific news of a father or mother murdering their family is now everyday 7-o'clock news. Could the bad economy explain it? No, what makes this economic downturn different than those of the past is the large numbers of people on homicide-motivating antidepressants and antipsychotics. Public health columnist Martha Rosenberg explains.   more »

PTSD drugs to blame for skyrocketing US military deaths and suicides

- Army suicides have increased for four years straight. In January 2009 there were more suicides than combat deaths. Clincial psychologist Bruce Levine blames antidepressants.  more »

- Why are suicides among Iraqi soldiers twice the number as those for other wars? Columnist Martha Rosenberg answers, "One reason could be that 80% of troops with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are given drugs that didn't exist during other wars."  more »

- The large numbers of recent Army deaths occuring during sleep are the result of sudden cardiac death caused by antidepressants and antipsychotics given for PTSD, says neurologist Dr. Fred Baughman. Both classes of drugs have been recently found to increase the risk of "sudden cardiac death" and "fatal heart disease."  more »

- This lengthy article from a recent issue of Men's Health magazine begins, "The U.S. military is fielding one of the most heavily medicated fighting forces in the history of war. That means our soldiers aren't just fighting their enemies; they're often fighting their prescriptions, too."  more »

NAMI: consumer educator or pharma front group?

Is the National Alliance of Mental Illness a consumer educator, or a pharma front group designed to funnel ignorant people into paying drug customers? A US Senate inquiry into NAMI funding sources confirms what many have known for years: 56% of their funding comes from pharmaceutical companies who have a vested interest in making people believe they have mental disorders that require chemical "balancers" in a pill.  more »

APA claims mental disorders are true diseases, without a shred of evidence

Are mental disorders true diseases? CCHR lets the psychiatrists speak for themselves in this humorous video

What is causing my mental disorder?

If mental disorders are not caused by chemical imbalances in the brain, then what causes them? We cover this subject in past newsletter issues, but in addition to spiritual causes, mental disorder symptoms frequently stem from nutritional or medical factors. This web site helps you identify the appropriate lab test to ask your doctor for, in order to find the true cause of your mental problem or medical disease.   more »

Pharmakeia and Modern Day Drug Use, Part 4

Pastor Scott Johnson dissects the biblical concept of pharmakeia and ties it to modern day mind-altering drug use in this hard-hitting, truth-telling sermon audio series entitled "Pharmakeia: Sorcery, Pharmaceuticals & the Roots of Modern Day Drug Use." Here is Part 4.

Q&A

This reader, who works with children having various disorder and disease diagnoses, asks, "Are you saying that behavior is not affected by brain chemistry?" See our answer here.

Letters

This woman suffers from CFIDS (Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome), or "brain fog." Her letter taught us a good deal about the condition, and is a prime example of how our mental thought life produces physical ramifications. We are not slaves to our brain chemicals, as psychiatry and pharma would have us believe. The mind drives the brain; the brain doesn't drive the mind (real, true diseases excepted).  more »

Notable Quotes

"Since the death of my son I have been living with guilt. The guilt that comes with buying into this whole scam of mental health. Sure we need to be mentally healthy, but how many of us are so ill that we need a medication to make us better? I didn’t question the fact that my first sample of antidepressants didn’t come with the papers of side effects and warnings. My doctor gave me all those and I believed him just as I’m sure he believed what he was telling me. I’ve seen many times, the men and women who come into the office with their rolling briefcase asking to speak with the physicians. I knew who they were. I assumed that drug reps are bringing important information to the doctors on a new medical breakthrough their company has done. A medication that may help thousands of people. What I didn’t know is that these salespeople are legal drug dealers. That the product they may be pushing is doing more harm than good. I bought into this whole epidemic of mental illness that is plaguing our world. But my research has taught me otherwise. They are pushing products for imaginary illnesses."
--Christiane Schultz, mother of baby Matthew, who died just two hours after birth

"Although USA Today attempted to rewrite history this past week and erroneously reported that the Columbine shooters were not on antidepressants we are here to remind the world that Eric Harris was on the antidepressant Luvox... In the Red Lake school shooting Jeff Weise was taking the antidepressant Prozac. Our statement today is that minus antidepressants we feel sure that the shootings at Columbine High School and Red Lake, MN High School would never have happened and neither would the majority of the other school shootings and workplace violence shootings."
--Statement from families of a Columbine victim and the Red Lake shooter during a Columbine 10-year anniversary event

"If I had never been put on medications and just had counseling, I'd be
a lot better off."
--Marine Corporal Michael Cataldi, PTSD sufferer currently on Klonopin and struggling to withdraw
