Reader Responses, 2002

12/28/02: "Thank you for taking a stand and writing this book. I have reviewed it on my site and recommended it to all my viewers. I get many messages each week from people who are thinking of ending their lives. I started to notice something very disturbing and that was that about 50% of the people who write me claim to be Christians yet live such defeated lives that they are contemplating suicide. Probably 75% of that group also tell me that they have been in counseling and on medications and nothing works." --RD, Internet

12/20/02: "Your book is very good... I am particularly interested in counseling because part of my testimony is that of 4 rehabs and countless A.A. meetings (that never helped). Once I accepted the Lord he saved me from a 6 year drugee lifestyle... I count my sobriety date with my accepting the Lord, now 2 years and 3 months sober and blessed by Jesus Christ. I see how only the Lord truly changes people and know it firsthand." --KJ, Cardiff, CA

12/19/02: "Thanks for your... dedication to exposing the deception of psychology... [Your book is] articulate and scholarly." --NH, Virginia Beach, VA

12/5/02: "I wanted to thank you for your encouraging wisdom and words written in your book Psychology Debunked. After approx. 5 [marriage counseling] sessions we made a mutual decision to stop going because of lack of results and a significant amount of money lost in the process... I've never been comfortable with the fact of 'paying' for Christian help. That's when I sought out your book... Thank you again for your inspirational book." --JL, Internet

11/4/02: "I just recently had the good fortune to buy your book Psychology Debunked. I have only read a few chapters. I should probably read the whole thing and then write you - and maybe I will do that too! But I couldn't wait! I just wanted to say, 'thank you!!'

"I am a pastor in a mainline church. I am an associate pastor and have watched a senior pastor at the last church I served turn everybody away who looked like they needed help. He turned them away to the psychologists, 'the experts.' He even had the psychologists begin to do their counseling in-house. It broke my heart and my sense of what God would want from us felt violated. I felt ministry being taken out of my hands. I began to reflect very prayerfully and came to the conclusion that God wants us to counsel from the scriptures, invite the Great Counselor to be present, to pray, to guide people in a directive way.

"I have tried to live that out in my current church setting. Again, there is a senior pastor who is somewhat better about seeing the pastoral role as one that includes counseling. But still, he has psychologists on staff - one of whom has become quite angry with me for 'invading territory' by trying to biblically guide our people. She has attacked me in letters and in person as 'being dangerous' because I am attempting to care for people biblically and through God's leading.

"I feel so frustrated. I also began to doubt myself. Maybe I was all wrong about trying to guide people by our faith. Maybe psychology ought to be in the church. I was feeling somewhat defeated - but not completely. I keep Colossians 2:8 on a sticky note on my computer as you have seen 2 Peter 1:3 as foundational. Now, your book has given me the encouragement to keep on - I do have people who come to me even from other churches to be counselled. But I feel like my ministry is hidden under a rock nevertheless.

"So, I just wanted to tell you 'thank you' for writing a courageous and wonderful book... Bless you both for your fine work and example." --Rev. PM, Internet

9/19/02: "An outstanding work for the misguided society and many Christians... May God bless the reading of your work, the technical and scriptural references are excellent." --RS, Coalinga, CA

8/11/02: "Your book has convicted me to see myself in the mirror, the way God sees me. His word is like a mirror, and I must surrender to His word, and act upon it in my life... Your book is rooted in His word, and brings light to the soul... Thank you Lisa & Ryan for exposing the idols of lives--by going our own way and not following our Lord's directions. May God continue to bless you, and reach many to the path of righteousness through our Lord and Savior." --NT, Poway, CA

7/25/02: "Thank you for the book. It's been very encouraging." --EP, San Diego, CA

7/2/02: "Psychology Debunked is a much-needed book. It's timeless--it will be on the stores shelves for years to come." --CB, Dallas, TX

------------------------------------------------------------

6/28/02: "Psychology Debunked is an excellent book--clearly and smoothly written and easy to understand. It explains everything. There is no other book out there like it." --CB, Temecula, CA

------------------------------------------------------------

6/26/02: "This book may be an answered prayer, for I just asked the Father if I should keep my July 9th appointment to have my son evaluated by a psychiatrist." --KM, Fallbrook, CA

------------------------------------------------------------

6/12/02: "Your book is fabulous! It just touches the soul. It is so enlightening and so well-written for a lay person to understand... You are opening doors of truth to help so many who are seeking help... Praise the Lord that you and Ryan have stepped out in faith to make a difference for this generation." --NT, Poway, CA
